Anybody willing to have a crack at the team of the year? Will there be any surprises this year? Hopefully some research is put into it this year and it isn't picked on reputation!

I haven't seen enough of the opposition to have a stab and would be too biased with our Gorillas but I'd say 90% of positions will come from Strathmore, Greenvale, Abers, Pacco & Marbi. For the lower teams - Glesson (Oak Park) - one shining light in an ordinary season Lynch (Douttas) - could win league medal Garth (Keilor) - kicked 70+ - jet

Great prediction by the King! Every time I've seen Lynchy play he has been in the best few players on the ground which is a great effort in a young team.
Team of the year is very difficult! Having mainly watched Abers games this I think Craven, big Mal, O'Brien, Fanning, Mangan, Norden are all strong candidates - am i forgetting anyone Kingtrupo?

It's virtually impossible to do a team of the year given that early everyone watches their own team most weeks. Freak, I do agree with you that T.Hislop is a star but cos he missed so many weeks he probably is inelibigle and Michael must be in. Here goes my attempt:
Little Michael Mazzeo Craven M Smith Jorgo Arrowsmith Iacobucci Lynch Doering Winter Lee Jones Garth Bannister
Fanning, Nayna, Kuret
Bench: O'Brien, Fitzgerald, Kahldevelt, Franchina

I know it's easy to criticize but it's an absolute joke if Jorgenson didn't make the team and how they couldn't put Mal Michael in I'll never know. Jorgo is about the best player in the league so I'm hoping I've misread it or you've made an error! thingy Little, Mazzeo, Craven all terribly unlucky and pretty generous to put an Oak Park or AH player in given their season. Spot on about Groth, has been awesome.

The side isnt a bad side, but lets be honest, does anyone know what the criteria for choosing players? Barling, very good player, played 10 games for the season, Little been fantastic all year. WCB, i agree, How Jorgo is not in this side is not a joke, but a disgrace, i have watched greenvale 6 times this year, and between him and Kuret they have run the show out there.. He would be rated with Doering as probably 2 of the most influential players in this comp has had in the last 5 years along with Ayres.
I think the EDFL should actually select 6 people to do this side, that are not the blokes sitting in the boardroom, to go out and view the comp and then put a side together...
And D Joyce in the back pocket, please, as someone said to me this morning, he wouldn't know were the back pocket was...!

Gee i cause some feathers to be ruffled by my post..!
Ok i have some feedback from some people about what i have written. All coaches are asked to submit a side Best on grounds are taken into account
Waiting for feedback from Matty and the guys on here to confirm that this is correct, again, this isnt really a pot at what the EDFL is doing, but maybe its time to give this to a few people to go around and have a look at games each week and sit down and put a side together that is from people not associated with any club or directly with the EDFL?!!

4 of the 6 in the back line don't even play there! Should be picked on position and if you don't fit in the position you play then you don't get picked. Simple. Bannister half back when he kicked 40 goals this year! Barling should not be in there. Hislop is an iffy one only played 10 games, reputation wins out on that one. Jorgensen has to be in it don't know how he isn't. Few players stiff to not get a look in. Maybe they could release a squad of 40 like they do in the afl and then they can let the coaches choose who they want in and the ones with the most votes get named?

In my opinion, picking a team of the year would be extremely difficult and you will always have opinions from people saying - you should have picked this player or that player shouldnt be in the team. At the end of the day, the team that was picked looks very good, with a number of players being able to play in many positions. Like Jarrod Bannister for example, played the first half of the year half back but still managed to kick a number of goals. He is a utility.
Every year the All Australian Team has great players who just miss out but the fact is you cant put 40 into 22. This generates discussions and people have their opinions which is fantastic. But to question the credibility of the people selecting the team is immature.
Our league is strong and has depth, so picking the best 22 isnt easy and I congratulate those involved because this team has match winners, ball getters, class, talls, leaders and flexibility.

It is fantastic to get feedback off people.
The league's criteria was getting teams off the coaches which we did and using those team's, with the access of competition votes we put together 3 fantastic Teams of the Year that have all had mostly great compliments about. It was also based on the 2012 form strongly also.
We used a 10 game min. where players like T. Hislop (11/19 played & (J. Barling 13/19) had been questioned.
Players who were named from their specific coach were held in the highest regards to have IN or OUT of their team.
Not that I want to go into specifics or have to defend feedback or criticism, but Trav Jorgonson who Anthony Rock rates as the best player he has seen in the EDFL didn't pick Travis and elected GV players who had better seasons in his team. If it was a Rep Team playing the Eastern FL next year he would of definately of had Jorgo in, as would the EDFL cleary. So the league clearly holds this in the highest opinion and Jorgo was an emergency even despite that as 3 other coaches put him in.
Jarrod Bannister didn't play forward until Round 11 vs Oak Park when he kicked 6 in first qtr and 10 for game and was HB before that.
The two mostly that have been questioned were Dylan Joyce (B. Pocket) and Josh Grabowski. The teams received by coaches from the EDFL mostly all had different BP's and HB's and there weren't any solid choices, so we elected to use versatile mids who could play back.
I hope that assists some feedback and congratulations to all the players who made the teams. A fantastic effort and priviledge.
