Absolutely fantastic game of local footy yesterday at Lebanon Reserve. Just about the best game of local footy I've seen with the Mores just holding out for a 7 point win. Strathmore were kicking with the wind in the first and Doering started brightly with early goals. Abers consistently hit back with Tom Hislop dominating the first quarter and Johns contributing a couple of goals along with a major to Dave Fanning. An early win for Abers was Iaccobucci tagging T.Hislop in the back pocket. Strathmore responded late on to lead by two goals at quarter time.
The second term saw Abers kick the early goals to level scores once more, but once again the mores responded to hold a couple of goals lead at the main break. The ruck contest between Fanning and Jones was enthralling.
The third term was tight once more, with Abers managing to keep the pressure on Strathmore with goals into the breeze. Strathmore maintained a hand 2-3 goal advantage at three quarter time.
The last term did not disappoint with early goals to Abers snatching the lead only for Strathmore to find something extra and pull away once. The game hung in the balance for most of the final term until Strathmore held strong reinforcing why they are the premiers. The leadership of Doering and Iaccobucci was crucial in the final moments. Abers definitely showed they mean business and with a bit of luck could have snatched a win but there was a lot to like about their performance.
Best players for Abers were Fanning, Skipworth, Peverill, Craven, Hislops etc.
The mores had all their stars contribute at different stages of the game but I thought Arrowsmith was their most consistent performer across half back over the four quarters. Fitzy as you would expect was very good and Jones, Doering and Iacca all showed their class throughout. The little number 35 (I think) on the wing/forward flank was also very impressive, can anyone tell me who that was?
Overall it was a great day for EDFL football and considering both sides still have players to come back in the next time these two meet could be even better.

I think the number 35, was actually number 25 Daniel Sinnott I think his name was, he played a huge game and seems very quick, the Abers guys couldn’t catch him all day.
Was an absolute belter of a game, and I think Abers could be the real deal when there side has actually played a few games together. They look to have plenty of run and class. Skipworth is just so important to their midfield, how well they go will depend on how many games he can play. Strathmore look like they have improved again, Arrowsmith has a very classy foot and gives plenty of run and Iacobucci just wins plenty of ball, have seen the 2 strathmore games so far and still yet to be convinced what all the fuss is around Horne. Not sure if they are still playing but was no Reynolds or Zantuck.

Strathmore are an improved side on last year and deserve to be strong favorites to go back to back. The bonus appears to be improved depth as indicated by 2 very good wins against Abers and keilor who are traditionally very strong in the twos.

Have been told that Reynolds will not play at all this season. Will concentrate on his work at Brad Teal Real Estate.

Yeah Daniel Sinnot sounds right (unfortunately I didn't get hold of a record for the game), he was lightning and really skillful.
I agree Strathmore deserve to be flag favourites especially given their perfomance in the first two rounds and also considering the players to come back in (Silva, Stuadt, Little etc) - have heard differing reports on Zantuck and Reynolds and I notice Digby even suggested that he is being kept out of the team due to the quality of their big men which is scary. Mazzeo was back and playing well so perhaps Digby wil ease his veterans back into it?
In regard to Horne, I thought he showed plenty of skill against Keilor and Abers, perhaps he won't be as dominant as Iacca but he gets a lot of the ball and uses it well. I've spoken to players from the SANFL who rated him highly.

Strathmore football club have sigend SANFL player Nathan Lyons to the club mid season through Andrew Horne.
I think Lyons was a former Western Jets player before heading to the SANFL.

Commentated a fantastic game of football for the outright spot of the Westpac Premier Division between Strathmore & Greenvale FC's.
Strathmore jumped out of the blocks early with midfielders Iacobucchi, Horne, Carrick and Groth getting on top early and giving Adam Winter plenty of ball up forward getting to a 20 to 0 lead 15 minutes into the 1st and the packed crowd of nearly 2,000 people were thinking how far? Then the Jets grinded back late in the last 5 minutes to get a goal before 1/4 time.
The Jets then came out firing in the 2nd, Potter dominating the ruck, Jorgonson running amock, Watts marking everything down back and former Melb/Carlton player Chris Johnson gathering plenty of touches. Kuret broke his tags off Carrick & Groth well to start winning some centre clearance and non- clubroom end became the scoring end with Greenvale kicking 5 goals to 0 and going into half time 10 points up. Jacob Thompson was giving Richard Little (who had a stellar 1st qtr with Nick Mazzeo) a lot of headaches.
In the 3rd it was the Mores who came out firing in a really high standard game. Winter, Harvey & Doering were great options up forward and the talented forward crumbers of Sinnot, Shane Foulds and Karl Staudt really made impact in the 2nd half.
Greenvale tried their hardest, but Stratmore once they got back infront fairly early in the 3rd, didn't give back the lead and in the end got the chocolates by 25 points.
The game was played in great spirits and infront of a fantastic crowd. Some 50 metres penalties given to Strathmore in the 2nd half really hurt Greenvale.
BEST for Strathmore - A.Winter, Iacobucchi, Horne, Harvey, Little, Mazzeo and Carrick.
Greenvale - S. Potter, J. Thompson, C. Johnson, T. Jorgonson, D. Burns, R. Nanya,

Round 10, Aberfeldie v Strathmore, Clifton Park
The Mores undefeated streak continued yesterday against a dogged Aberfeldie. Strathmore finally pulled away to win by a comfortable margin following three tough quarters which saw both teams hold the lead at different stages.
Although the conditions did not allow the spectacle of the Round 1 clash at Lebanon Reserve, both teams again showcased their unrelenting attack on the football. The Mores were without their star inside midfielder Matty Fitzgerald but still held their own in the contested football, Carl Groth and Glenn Carrick ably filling the void.
The Gorillas had a lot of winners on the day, especially in their backline which had to lift in the absence of Mal Michael and Jacob Craven. Adam El Houli blanketed Jordan Doering, keeping the star forward goalless, and Xavier Norden kept Adam Winter relatively quiet by his lofty standards. Lachlan Hutchesson was also very good down back, the young defender being a consistent performer all year. Nick Cattapan, B.Hayward and Brayden Norris were all good contributors through the midfield for the Two Blues.
Sadly Abers chances of victory were hi-jacked by injuries, Peverill going down in the first five minutes and Johns re-injuring his hamstring in the third term. Justin Phillips also appeared to pull a hamstring and Tom Hislop again struggled with a knee problem. Brayden Norris looked very groggy late on, Abers down to 17 by the end of the game.
Nonetheless, you cannot take anything from the Strathmore victory. You always sensed they could go up a gear when required. Abers hit the front mid-way through the third only for Strathmore to bang on three goals in a row to lead going into the last quarter. Former AFL listed players Arrowsmith and Iaccobucci showed their class when required while big man Jones was impressive in the ruck against a very good opponent in Fanning. Arrowsmith finished the game with three goals and probably was best afield.
Similar to the corresponding fixture last year, Strathmore did enough to win in tough conditions. Now with 10 wins and no losses the Mores definitely have one eye on finals. Still with a few players to come back into the line-up, an undefeated season is not beyond them.
FINAL SCORE
Aberfeldie: 7.8 – 50 Strathmore: 12.7 - 79
BEST PLAYERS Aberfeldie: Norden, El Houli, Norris, Cattapan, Hutchesson Strathmore: Arrowsmith, Groth, Little, Jones, May

I've heard that Strathmore may have been a little lucky in the game on the weekend with the sheer weight of injuries to key players of Abers playing a bigger part than any genuinely great play by the Mores. Hopefully come finals time they can meet at full strength.

Spoke with EDFL Board Director Matty Pillios who said "I must admit I did tip Marby on the EDFL Tv Show, but when it came to the crunch for the EDFL Footy Tipsters comp, I did tip Strathmore".
Pillios said. "I did think Strathmore would win, but definately didnt think they would beat Marby by 15 goals. I was suprised with the margin and think they was probably Marby's worst if the record books were pulled out in their A Grade history. Well done to Strathmore and Digby Morrell on their great form" he continued to say.
Jordan Doering was dominate for the Mores kicking 10 goals in a stellar performance. Matty did mention he loved seeing old time mate and Strathmore veteran Chris Cianter back in the 1's after a fair time off Senior footy.
The Channel 31 Footy Show was their and some long game highlights will be on this Friday night from 7PM - 8:30Pm.

Strathmore were comfortable victors on Saturday over Greenvale, they're looking really good and are a strong chance to go through the year undefeated and secure back to back flags. They're strong all across the field and have a lot of flexibility due to players being able to play multiple positions. The only downside for the 'mores was Nick Mazzeo susataining what i was told was a broken ankle.

Strathmore have offered $35K to a top SANFL forward for season 2013. Huge money for 1 player... Would surely have to be one of the best players in the league for that amount of coin!
