What a fantastic win by the burgers today! It will be great to watch APW v Taylors Lakes whilst having the break. Hopefully they will have a hard, physical game next week! Great to get into the Grand Final but there is still a long way to go and both teams are more than capable of beating us on the big day. Having said that though it is great to get a win against the more fancied APW but I have a feeling they will be back in 2 weeks time and that is the one that counts! GO BURGERS!!!!!!!!!!! I will be their and can't wait! Also congrats to the Under 18s for also making the Granny and hopefully the reserves get through the prelim!

First of all I am going to say that I am proud to be West Coburg but some incidents were not good enough and one was just so low that I am embarassed.
I have followed West Coburg all my life but the club needs to really think about the lack of discipline and make a stand if we ever want to play Premier division again.
We have a massive amount of talent through the Juniors (congrats to the Under 18's by the way) but it is time to really stand up and unite as a club.
I was proud of Hadfield this year when they took a stand and yes some players walked but they are better long term for it. We need to take a leaf out of Haddys book and get some respect back.

I was proud of Hadfield this year when they took a stand and yes some players walked but they are better long term for it. We need to take a leaf out of Haddys book and get some respect back. Went & watched an amazing grand final today for three reasons 1: Come back from that far down on the score board 2: The lack of control by the EDFL umpires 3: The display by the West Coburg Football Club To come back from that far behind terrific believe in each other as a playing group When no 1 for WC kicked & punched a APW player on the wing in the 1st 1/4 & the umpires didn't do any thing except a free kick, that set the tone for the game. When WC best player 1st half hit then kicked APW player 51, then WC player 18 King hit the APW captain & ran away to the fwd pocket the West Coburg Coach of the year did nothing. If this is the leadership from the main person in the club what hope have they got having any control on what took place after. The EDFL think they are one of the leading metro competitions, not what i seen today. They will be judged on their actions from these cowardly acts today. Lets hope Channel 31 who where filming this today don't put this to air. EDFL lost alot of credibility today. Umpires adviser at the 1/4 time break must have had no influence on what had occured in the 1st 1/4 as there was no change in the umpires stance. What has happened to reporting players that do this. Maybe if they had stamped it in the 1st 1/4 the ugly incidents in the last wouldn't have occurred. Maybe a strong coach of the club wouldn't tolerate his players kicking & done some thing about it. (take them off & chat to them, instead of just looking at the coaches board for answers)Leadership comes from the top. I feel sorry for the WC u18 coach & players that had a good victory & have to go back tonight to a club that dished up that deplorable display in the seniors today. Some times it is about how you take defeat that you are judged on. WEST COBURG you failed & it will be interesting to see if you stay in the comp or the EDFL board sweep it under the carpet.

Very ordinary by Fittax, IF and a big IF he was racially abused then although not right his actions can almost be excused, from all reports this is very out of character for him so for something to make him snap like that must have be serious.
Those calling for West Coburg to be banned, and saying this is a cultural problem with the whole club need to take a reality check. The club as a whole should not be judged on this and has been rightly placed on a pedestal for the hard work the guys behind the scenes do in proting ethnic diversity and multiculturalism within the EDFL. Every club has a few bad eggs that spoil it for the rest of them, but from my experience dealing with West Coburg they are a great club full of great people.

Having watched heaps of edfl over the years and this year i didnt see any of the finals cause Tulla didn't make it so i have been watching my mate who plays for northcote park the last 3 weeks and one of the thing i notice there is the standard of umpiring in the NFL is far better then the edfl by miles they give out yellow and red cards ,and if u swears or complain about a free kick that's a 50 metre pen, they the umpires take no nuts in the NFL , maybe the edfl should take there lead if they think they are a better comp, also i have seen alot of west coburg over the years and never seen any trouble with them maybe i went to the wrong games but all the blame cant not be put on them there was another team out there to

The Ammos/EFL and NFL all have far better umpiring than the EDFL, less "homeground decision" type calls and really take charge when fights or whatever break out. I know people get frustrated by over officiated games but umpires who aren't afraid to send people off or make reports are needed otherwise other ugly events will take place without any real deterrent.

If there is any good to come out of this incident then hopefully the EDFL now realises that it has to deal with the following:
1.Racism in EDFL football. The lack of action on this has been vey noticeabl considering the number of incidents inclduing one in which Chrish Johnson was abused - in that case I think Douttas were quite good in banning the supporter for life? They need to send a very clear message at senior level that any racism is unacceptable and start punishing players/supporters severely. A good way to make it stop is punishing clubs who's supporters say things that way it forces the club to kick idiots out.
2. Thugs in EDFL football. For too long the EDFL has taken a soft stance on off the ball king hits and blatant sniping - you only have to look at the way one premier club in particular went about their business this year to realise that EDFL is going back to the bad old days. Even the semi-final last year (GV v Marby) and this year (Abers v Marby) show how prevalent bralwing is and it is dreadful advertisment for such a strong league.
3. Umpiring. I am sympathetic to the umpires as they have a terribly hard job and get abused no matter what they do. The EDFL needs to make their job easier by clamping down on off the ball sh*t and warning all clubs that any bullsh*t in 2013 will result in send offs and lengthy suspensions.
Also, just want to say that its disappointing the way West Coburg is being demonised for this incident - From an outsider's perspective, they seem to be a club that is trying hard to improve on and off field and don't deserve to be tranished for a very unfortuante incident.

Wildcolonialboy - this sort of stuff has been happening for as long as I can remember at this Club. This isn't an isolated incident, it's been going on for twenty years.

Which club would that be? As for racism it isn't just a football club related proble, society as a whole should be above slurring someone due to a persons background. It's actually pathetic that we as a culture tolerate it as much as we do. West Coburg does a lot of good in giving an avenue to a lot of these young guys who may otherwise may feel playing footy isn't for them. The events of the Grand Final aside, West Coburg have always been looked down on more than say a Strathmore or a Greenvale, which have also had some cringeworthy moments in their time. I don't know Fitaax at all but from what I've been told this was an out of character action by him, hopefully he'll learn from it and can move on from here. I also hope that the people who allegedly slurred the West Coburg players are named and are dealt with as well. After all the talk of how great this league is.. now is the EDFL's chance to back it up with actions. Make a stand against racism and violence, it'll go along way to repairing the reputations of all the clubs which was so badly damaged at the weekend.

Freak, rather not have to name clubs but for me in the games I watched Oak Park were very ordinary in terms of sniping. This will no doubt have Oakers people on the defensive but as a person who respected their club for ages I thought they went backwards this year. And I fully agree about West Coburg, they are a decent club that works hard to improve the lives of young blokes from many different backgrounds. It's bloody hard work and they don't deserve to be slandered for unfortunate incidents. About 20 years ago my club had a bloke kick someone in the head, not to mention any number of other ordinary things I've seen from a heap of different clubs.

Theres no way that- Anyone can Condone or Justify these actions... i have a mate he is a paraplegic, from a local football incident. Footy is dangerous enough as is without these blatant vicious acts of violence/

GLENROY V WC Reserves
Nick County- KING HIT behind play- Broken Jaw, In Hospital for 2 to 3 weeks, metal plates/screws, didn't play again after incident, probably will never look at football like he used to again
And he is the most harmless great bloke you would ever meet
