Great effort by the Marby Park Lions in yesterday's First Ever BOAGS Best of the Best Cup, making the Grand Final losing to the strong football club South Barwon (GFL). With quality missing from line up (Bullen, Holland, Barling, Carey, Stewart, Jones, McLynn, Kelly, Angelopolous & J. Soloman) and also losing Haynes & Daley amongst others, the boys showed a bit beating Albion, Clayon and Old Carey FC's to make the Grand Final. Recruits - Jake Ryan, Brendon Hollow and Zac O'hailpin all played great games. Talking to MarK Enwright, coach of South Barwon FC he mentioned only 3 or 4 were only missing from the GFL powerhouse and he knew what a full fit Lions squad was capable of. It was also fantastic to see EDFL Board Members - Glenn Allison, Ian Price and Brett Scott enjoying the day. Was standing with some South Barwon people on the day who were saying they had a half dozen or so out, either way Marby are looking really strong for the year and have to go in heavy favourites for this season.

Maribyrnong Park 17.11.113 def Oak Park 11.13.79
Marby have flexed their muscle and come away with a 34 point win against Oakers. Oakers had 11 scoring shots to 3 in the first quarter but only led by 3 goals.
Solid start for Marbys quest of a three-peat!

Maribyrnong Park 17.11.113 def Oak Park 11.13.79 Marby have flexed their muscle and come away with a 34 point win against Oakers. Oakers had 11 scoring shots to 3 in the first quarter but only led by 3 goals. Solid start for Marbys quest of a three-peat! This was certainly a danger game for Marbi however they came out on top following a brilliant 3rd quarter. Their class, speed of ball movement and accuracy when finishing stood out. With only 12/13 of their 2010 premiership team playing it made it even more impressive. Young Dylan Conway on release from Williamstown was terrific as a small forward as was Gareth Bowes (ex cannon), Kade and O'Halpin presented well and Livingston and Towner held their own down back. It was a fairly even spread of contributors across the board and when you have the ability to rotate 8-12 quality players through key running positions they're going to be hard to beat. A. Lerm battled hard in the ruck and tried to give his midfielders first use however big unit Boyd is hard to toss and covered the ground well. New recruits Ed Clarke and Vic Sciciliano were quite serviceable in their first hit-outs for their new club and Jack Pascu gets better each year! In the 3rd quarter when Marbi put the foot down, Oaks weren't without their chances however butchered the footy too often when delivering to their key forwards. It certainly highlights that the A Grade comp has stepped up another gear and it's great to have local footy back!

Headed down to see Marby v Greenvale yesterday to see a rematch of last years Grand Final. Marby were a lot stronger across the field and seemed to know how to play the conditions better, having a big focal point up forward in Livingston really helped whereas Greenvale really missed Lucas. Best players for Marby were Livingston who pulled down mark after mark and Bowes and Laverde who just won the ball at will all day. Upside for the Jets was that whilst Marby had the run of play they weren't able to maximise their advantage on the scoreboard.

Good win by Marby considering they had out Carey, Stewart, Jones, Holland. Greenvale were missing Lucas. Both should be playing finals again.

Massive win by Abers over Marby. Marby Park did have a few out (Carey, McGlynn, Laverde, Bailey) but the win will give Abers alot of confidence. Pev, Mal & Skipworth all played well.
Good to see these two clubs as rivals in A Grade, as they are around the corner from eachother.
Matthew "Hulk" Pillios was there & the man must be spending all his time under the bench press. He is as fit as fiddle at the moment the old EDFL guru.

It was a great game on the weekend, one of high standard. Abers looked the goods, Pev, Houli, Cattapan, Skipworth and liddle were all good.
For Marbi Mackenzie, Ayres, Stewart and Hollow were good. Marbi were missing a few though, Barling, Carey, Ball and Holland, be a very interesting couple of weeks. Is it the first lost for Marbi since the stars beat them at home last season?

The real question is, who was Matty barracking for? We all know he loves Marby but I think wearing his EDFL hat he might've been a bit happy to see the two blues get up haha...he does seem to have a soft spot for the Abers.
I thought it was a great, tough game and let's not forget Abers had a few out as well. I saw Greenvale destroy Marby there last year so I don't think you can read much into the result...Marby are the team to beat, got the runs on the board and will lift to another level come finals. But great for the comp!

Matty is Marby through & through. He does have some mates down at Abers (L Kinna & Donza) who he would no doubt still like seeing run around. John Larkins has been a president who is always prepared to give up his time to help promote the competition when Matty was running his various EDFL programs. So their is a great amount of respect there.
Spoke to a few Marby boys who said they were simply outplayed on the day. They won the Grand Final from fourth last year, so they know when to peak. So it would be water off a ducks back & they will bounce back hard.
