No doubt craigieburn have surprised a few this year... Will be interesting to see if the win last week will kick start keilor's year or was a one off effort. I'll go with Keilor, just...

Great win by the Eagles today. Fully deserved the victory. They dominated the ruck and centre clearances all game with Brooks a clear stand out along with all their guns playing well, in particular Lekkas who was probably BOG.
Craigieburn looked pumped right from the start with Bakoulas getting a couple early as well as Lance chipping in for one. Abers kept touch for the first half and finally got in front by three quarter time with the backline keeping Cragieburn goalless for the third term. The two blues last quarter just was not good enough with Craigieburn fighting right to the end and getting late goals to deservedly win the game. To be fair, if the Eagles had kicked straight throughout the match then they would have led by more with Lance and co. missing goals you'd expect them to kick.
The ruck work in final moments was telling with Brooks and Lance constantly slapping the ball forward into the space of running players.
Abers looked flat most of the game and never really got going with poor decision making and skill errors. Their backline, led bravely by Jacob Craven who was probably Abers best player over the whole game, did not have the same exceptional rebound as usual. In the midfield Rabee had an off day and was caught in possession often. Peverill and Skipworth both played well but not for the full four quarters. Likewise Florence was good without being at his absolute dominating best.
The conditons made things quite difficult for both teams which meant there were quite a lot of turnovers and missed set shots. The finishing skills of Cattapan was sorely missed for Abers. Terrence Upoko was a big out for Craigieburn but their midfield still fought hard and had many contributors over the game including Daniel Graham, young gun Nick Flethcer, Steve Boyall, Cameron Woods and Lekkas.
Down back Christou's experience was vital. Ang may be a bit slower but he remains calm under pressure and he has lost no distance in his kicking, spotting up teammates with a 60m pass on numerous occasions. Lance played a floating role all over the ground for most of the game and again his experience really was pivotal chiming in with a couple of goals while also helping out down back and in the middle.
Abers forwards worked pretty hard with Suarez kicking 3 majors and Dave Meli providing plenty of run as well as kicking some great goals. The Eagles obviously respected Meli's ability with their skipper Roland Hall playing the whole game alongside the pocket rocket. Meli showed Hall a clean set of heals and was one of Aber's clear winners on the day. Big Mal did plenty of good things but did not dominate and arguably would have been better served to play in ruck to nullify Brooks' dominance.
Congratulations to Cragieburn, deserved victory and clearly showing that they are a team on the up. I think with a few smart recruits they could be finals contenders next year.
For Abers, it will be interesting to see how they bounce back from this at Oakers. They definitely had an off day and just couldn't quite close out the match in the final minutes. No doubt they can play far better. They can recover from this and there's no bigger challenge at the moment than Oak Park away. The NAIDOC lunch was a roaring success, with Cyril Rioli very popular among the juniors and sharing some funny moments with his cousin Deano. Great to see the Aborignal flag flying high as well!
Final Score: Aberfeldie - 76, Cragieburn - 80
Best Players:
Abers: Craven, Meli, Skipworth, Florance, Hutchesson, Peverill, Houli, Suarez
Cragieburn: Lekkas, Brooks, Woods, Whitnall, Christou, Boyall, Fletcher, Graham,

Any truth to the rumour that Lance Whitnall will be coaching Craigieburn next year?

Good luck to the boys tomorrow against an inform Strathmore and I hope Barry Brooks wins the league B&F. He is probably the best ruckman in local footy and a great bloke too.

Can anyone shed light on the rumours about a few Cragieburn sponsors pulling out due to the re-appointment of Barnard? Also, are any players following big Lance to Glenroy?

Not only is craigieburn losing players to Pascoe vale, you can throw in Glenroy,Diggers Rest,Greenvale and also Montmorency. That is how many players they are losing, they have lost sponsers and a lot of people have walked away from that club. Its a shame as some of the players they have lost where very talented and quite a few up and commers, all because of their selection of coach

This time last year people were saying the same thing about Cragieburn and they still managed to have quite a good season but the loss of Lance will hurt. What is the issue with the sponsors and supporters and Barnard? From an outsider's perspective it seems Barnard is doing a good job playing young kids and promoting a decent brand of footy.

I've heard two different sides to the Craigieburn/Barnard problem, one was that he's arrogant and hard to play for and the other was that he calls a spade a spade and doesn't go off reputation.. either way it'll be interesting to see how they respond.

I hear Craigieburn are in talks with Stevie Baker "St Kilda" and Mitch Farmer "Richmond". Stevie Baker lived with Brooksy when they were both playing at the Saints and Farmer is a Cburn junior who was just recently delisted by the Tigers.

Mitch Farmer a good chance to sign for Craigieburn. Dervis Akkus (ex greenvale defender) will most likely be playing there after not getting a look in at paco.
