Source Dest. Hadfield Maribyrnong Park Kaakour, Mohammed Pending 09/05/12 It seems so. Honestly though would they get a game? Also Jayden Kotzur is a good pick up (former O&M premiership captain), played against him in juniors and he was a gun.

Heard that Marby new recruit Mo Kaakoor was picked in the squad for Marby Park today to take on Keilor.
Great effort for him after leaving Hadfield a few weeks back and he is a proven Division 1 (A Grade) player.

"Dutchy" Holland back this week for Marby. They will really need his experience out there. Have been hurt so really reliable players leaving over the Summer. Not easy to replace the left foot gang - McKenzie, Broadbent & Crawford.

Watched the Marby Park vs Pascoe Vale game on the weekend and it was a good/close contest all day. The rain at times was heavy and this had an impact on skills/transition of play.
Both teams played hard/contested footy all day, with Marby getting the chocolates. To Paco's credit - they play a hard brand of footy and compete well against the good teams but cant find a way to win the close ones.
Afew key outs for both teams - made it an even contest.
With results going there way - Marby are now a big chance to finish 4th. Its now between them and Oak Park for a spot in the finals.

What a game it is going to be this week.........Marby vs Abers!!
Spoke to a few people from both clubs over the weekend, they are very confident that everything is improving at the right time of year. This weekend could make or break one of these sides.

Marby looking to give themselves a chance to face Abers in the first final with Smith, Brown, Towner, Butters, Ayres & Holland all returning this week. Should be too strong for EDS & Oakers.

Aberfeldie FC v Maribyrnong Park, Coburg City Oval (Elimination Final)
The recent history of these two local rivals added an extra element of intrigue to an already exciting elimination final. Marby are a team that has already achieved the ultimate success with back to back flags in 2009 &10. Although no longer the powerhouse of the competition they still have the finals experience and a number of star players able to produce when it matters. Conversely Abers are a young team who have not played finals since 2003. Only Brett Hayward was playing yesterday from that team. Back then Abers were a team of veterans who were mostly past their best. They had lost back to back grand finals and after the loss to Douttas in the 2003 elimination final the club parted ways with a number of key players. The club has tried in vein ever since to get back to playing finals. Finally in 2012 Abers got the playing personnel to get them there. Even though Abers had won comfortably twice in the year, it meant nothing against this opposition.
The first quarter saw Marby start the livelier winning the ball out of the centre and getting out to a two goal lead before being pegged back. After a long absence before his return from Osteitis Pubis against Oak Park last week, the former league best and fairest Heath Ayres was playing deep in the forward line and looked as good as ever with early goals. All day Abers struggled to find a match up for a player who was too strong one out and too good on the ground. No doubt Abers fans would lament the absence of Jacob Craven down back, arguably the Gorillas most important player and a possible option to play on the rampant Ayres.
Like a mirror image, Abers had their very own superstar performer deep in their forward line who was also under an injury cloud having not played in 9 weeks. Tommy Hislop kicked Abers first goal and then celebrated by putting Matt Towner on the deck, no easy feat. The stage was set for an eruption of conflicting personalities in the Abers forward line with no chance of either side backing down. Soon after Whicello was on the deck in the goal square, presumably for paying too close attention to Tom Hislop. The crowd atmosphere was electric and after T.Hislop goaled again from a set shot and ran straight through a bevy of his tormentors inevitably all hell broke loose. The fireworks were quickly over as the re-start was contested by two rovers. A brilliant goal from Mangan was the highlight of the quarter, the big mullet producing a great performance to finish with 5 goals, being made to earn every kick by Towner. With only two points separating the sides at quarter time and both sides nursing some sore jaws, the stage was set for an epic contest.
The second quarter saw Marby destroy their younger opposition, piling on nine goals and barely allowing Abers past their half way line for most of the quarter. The Lions dominated the centre clearances with the likes of Lee, Bowes and Hollow running riot. Abers managed to hit back with late goals after allowing the margin to get to 46 points. Once again T Hislop and Mangan were the main threats up forward, Tommy relishing the close attention by giving as good as he got, ensuring notoriety amongst the Marby supporters and absolute affection from the Abers faithful. Although the theatre of the stoushes was entertaining, the scenes got very ugly at half time, Matty Pillios thankfully separating players and supporters.
The third quarter saw a new Aberfeldie side emerge willing to work harder and take risks by consistently switching to the corridor to create opportunities. Big Johns was great up forward while big Fanning got on top in the ruck. Down back Zac Hislop showed maturity beyond his years with middle brother Jacob equally good up forward. Abers had rallied but just could not get in front. Marby did well to absorb the pressure deep in their defence and hold onto a 10 point lead at the final break. Abers desperately needed a late goal to go in with the momentum but just could not break the spirited Lions.
The last quarter saw Marby kick away to a 15 point advantage twice, only for Abers to keep coming to draw within just 3 points, Mangan and Borg kicking pressure goals. With Abers poised to take the lead the pressure of Marby held out. Heath Ayres was phenomenal up forward. Having led the charge early on, Ayres was now willing his team over the line. Every time Abers drew within touching distance Ayres was on hand to kick crucial goals, finishing the game with 5. The little champion was well supported by a number of experienced heads including Lee, Bowles, Hollow through the middle and Livingstone, DeSousa and Kaakour up forward. Barling was well beaten by big Mal but still got to a lot of contests and did enough to get the ball to ground. With the ball in Abers forward line late, a costly turnover saw the end of their chances, Marby rebounding brilliantly as they had all day to finally break the Gorillas hearts. An absolutely fantastic game of EDFL football that had everything.
Overall, it was a deserved victory to a proud group of players who have the belief and ruthlessness to get the job done when it matters. They have climbed the mountain from this position before. Was this one last great game from a brilliant football team or have they still got more fire left? Greenvale deserve to be favourites next week especially with the return of Jacob Thompson, but you just never know with this group of players who have got the runs on the board. Any team with Heath Ayres has got a chance.
For Abers, it is a bitter pill to take. They put in a mountain of work throughout the season to give themselves the best possible chance of success. They have been exposed to finals football, they now know what it will take to go to the next level. Consistency of performance is the key. Abers played one great quarter, two par quarters and one poor quarter. That has been the difference between them and the top teams this year. They should be proud of their fight back but that obviously does not excuse allowing the margin to blow out to 46 points. Abers clearly lacked inside midfielders yesterday and sadly have not been the same team without Craven. These are not excuses, just realities. Ironically they play their best footy against Strathmore so a chance to play in a grand final with Skipworth and Craven back makes you ask what could have been. We will never know.
Congratulations to Marby, and good luck to both teams next week.
Final Score:
Aberfeldie FC: 17.8 - 110
Maribyrnong Park: 18.12 - 120
Best players:
Aberfeldie: Mangan, T.Hislop, D.Fanning, Z.Hislop, J.Hislop, Mullins, Peverill

Are the Lions roaring at the right time and a chance to upset Greenvale?
What are your thoughts on this fantastic Prelim final?

I said on here not long ago Marby got ahead of themselves last year. They thought the names were going to do it & got thrashed by Greenvale. They didn't make the same mistake this year against Aberfeldie.
In what was one of the great EDFL games, Marby's experience got them over the line in a thrilling clash.
There were two standout performances from the match, from two players they have been under injury clouds:
Tom Hislop played an amazing game, kicked 4 goals & taught the male model, Kev Whichello, a thing or two about how to play the game.
Heath Ayres will go down as the second best Marby player I have ever seen. Very rarely do you see a player of his height be so strong in the air. Kicked 7 & was the difference.
Will be a massive game for Marby this week against Greenvale, I can't see them winning, but funnier things have happened.

I would like to hear some news from the Marby Army?
Seems like they are losing afew soldiers? Have the soldiers left their post, now the money is drying up?

I'm not certain the money is drying up, maybe they're just not paying at such inflated rates given they do have some talented youngsters coming through, a number of players have certainly lived their reputations as mercernaries the way they've shopped themselves around though.. Great to see that Brodie is staying loyal to Marby and helping them recruit to cover the losses they've suffered.
