A very strong performance by the Abers side, I'm told. Patak and Cubillo were dominant and continued their great early season form.

Fantastic win by Abers today against quality opposition. Abers led early before Strathmore started to get on top in the second quarter to only trail by two goals at halftime. The third quarter was an arm wrestle before Abers kicked four or five late goals to break the game open. The last quarter had lost a bit of intensity with Abers stretching the lead to ten goals.
Best players were Allan, Toy, Castellano, Johns, Fahey, Tipungwuti etc

Fantastic game between two great Div 1 rivals. Glenroys height and potent fwds against the run and strong Tulla defence. An arm wrestle all day that saw Tulla lead by 14 points at half time but the Roys by 7 at 3 quarter time. Tulla got out to lead by 16 pts but the Roys kept coming and with the last kick of the game tied the scores with a curruthers goal. Kite was well held by Hynninen and Laurie was well held by Sayers for Glenroy. The midfield battle was terrific with Dennis, Campbell, Cronin and Scibba going up against Marcy, Burns, Delaney and Barton. Unfortunately Tulla sustained 3 or 4 serious injuries with 2 players going to hospital. A lack of rotations hampered the visitors late in the game as Glenroy rattled home. Expecting both of these sides to be thereabouts in September.

It must have been a great game and although the Demons depth will be tested over the next six weeks they should be wound in to flaf favs.

Abers are absolutely flying at this stage and with a few handy players to come back into the side they'd be quietly confident you'd imagine.

An ordinary spectacle today between the local rivals, with both teams guilty of poor decision-making and numerous skill errors. The Gorillas were determined to play their possession game but too often over-possessed the ball under immense pressure from Douttas. The Stars made things very difficult for Abers, tackling and pressuring all day before threatening late on. Had it not been for three easy misses in the last quarter the stars could have really applied pressure.
The Gorillas struggled to convert their dominance all day, which was partly because of the organised defence from the Stars but also due to basic errors that hampered any chance of finding their rhythm. A significant factor was the early injury to Ryan Allan which meant Abers struggled for a tall forward option as the Stars could focus solely on nullifying Mango who struggled to find space, often competing against two or three opponents. Overall the Gorillas will be relieved to escape with the win but will need to lift their game this week against the in form Airport West.
Johnno Morris was fantastic all day, shutting down Mangan, while Brayden Norris, Zac O'Brien and Josh Toy were some of the Gorillas better players along with a good defensive effort. Abers have not looked the same team after the mid-year break, while Douttas look to have improved considerably compared to the round 1.

The Sunday game was a tough contest in which once again the Gorillas defence were impressive. The Gorillas first quarter was one of their best of the season. They controlled tempo and possession to craft out three goals into the breeze, while also absorbing a lot of pressure to restrict the Heights to just one goal late on.
The Heights responded in the second quarter, upping their pressure to work their way back into the game, and were unlucky not to be closer at half-time. The third quarter saw the Heights rally with the breeze through two quick fire goals to Pat Rose and another to Aparo to bring scores level. A late goal to the Gorillas wrestled some of the momentum back going into the last. After the Heights got the first, the Gorillas repsponded to dominate the quarter though inaccurate kicking once again hampered them. After a number of misses it was a goal from Jess Rush in the pocket that finally got them going. Another from Langwell in the same pocket and then another form a set shot all but sealed victory as the Heights could not respond.
For the Heights Stephen Tiller was fantastic all day playing on Mangan, while Josh Grabowski and Matthew Cravino were other good contributors. Honours were even between El Houli and Pat Rose, the star forward finishing with four goals.
For Abers, it was very pleasing to see some of the lesser name players excelling. Lachy Langwell was fantastic, kicking three crucial goals, Robbie Fox was again very good and youngsters Moylan and Barrett did some great things. Fanning returning to form was also very encouraging.

A comfortable win for Abers over Keilor with a number of contributors across the whole field for the Gorillas. Josh Toy was brilliant across half back and Lachy Langwell continued his good form up forward. Other notable players were Jacob Hislop, who booted 3 goals, while Josh Cubillo provided plenty of highlights up forward.
Andrew Browne was probably Keilor's best player while Marcy and Van Reit battled hard all day.

I think Abers will win by 13 points though have not seen the team yet so a lot will depend on availability of certain players.
On form it will definitely be the Grand final reply but whoever loses the first final will have a tough task against an Airport West team with nothing to lose. I think Airport West are the only team that could cause an upset in finals.

Really great win by the Gorillas at Highgate Recreation Reserve on Saturday to book themselves into their first grand final since 2002. The facilities and ground surface are first class and the game lived up to expectations. The first contests of the game were unbelievably tough with both teams attacking the ball with ferocity. It was Abers that started brightest, making the most of the wind in the first quarter to kick six goals while restricting the Jets to just three points. The wide expanses of the ground suited the Gorillas who hit up targets and used their numerous running players to drive attacks from the defensive half. The second quarter saw the Jets hit back with four majors to one as they began winning the 50/50 contests. The third quarter was a war of attrition as Greenvale threw everything at the two blues in an almighty effort to stay in the game. Having held the Gorillas goalless for 20 minutes two late goals to T.Hislop and Patak swung the momemtum back in favour of Abers. Down by 37 points going into the last change was always going to take a monumental effort from the Jets and two early goals to the Gorillas was enough to all but kill the game.
For the Jets the performances of Chris Spinella and Matt Smith were two of the highlights. Anybody who discounts the reigning champions will only need to watch the footage of last year's grand final to see what they are capable of when it counts most.
For the Gorillas it was a fantastic team effort with the peromances of Cubillo, Connors and Fox probably the stand outs.

Abers were simply too good on the day and were willing to work a lot harder than their Greenvale counterparts who put in a reasonably sloppy performance by their standards with poor disposal and marking hurting their cause against a more polished and composed Aberfeldie outfit. In the conditions Greenvale were probably too top heavy and short of run which for periods of time allowed Abers to do as they pleased. From the limited amounts I've seen of the EDFL this season Josh Cubillo has really stood out as being a class above and once again showed it at the weekend. Greenvale must now regroup and come to play against an impressive Airport West in order to gain another shot at Aberfeldie in the Grand Final. The scary thought is the idea that Aberfeldie have quite a bit of quality to come back into the side.

Yes fair calls Freak, will be watching very closely this week to see how Greenvale respond.
Abers have a big challenge to make sure they are ready to go in two weeks whoever the opponent is. They have to play with the same intensity.
