Well written Julian.
It looks that Abers had some key players in the team with Mal, Aker, Damian Peverill and Hayden Skipworth all in the team.
Great to see for the two blues.
Well done on the club getting Aker to play & from all reports was a pretty big crowd.

Is it true Abers have signed ex Richmond player Daniel Conners for $2.5K a game?

I don't know for sure, but can confidently guess that Abers DO NOT have Daniel Connors...or at very least not for that sort of cash!! I think the reason this rumour has got legs is because some of our players are close with some of the Richmond players. Can players even be signed now?

With the way Gold Coast are going this year, they might throw Connor's a life line. He can play, just has to pull his socks up in the professional department.

ROUND 13, OAK PARK v ABERFELDIE A ten goal to one first term all but ended this game as a contest, Aberfeldie producing arguably their best quarter of football for the season. The two big Abers’ forwards, Keford and Mangan, had 4 and 3 goals respectively by quarter time. The Aberfeldie midfield, getting great service from Fanning, absolutely dominated the quarter and hit up their key forwards on the lead who delivered a master class in accurate goal kicking from all angles. On the odd occasion the ball did not get marked by a big forward, the Aberfeldie small forwards like Castellano were on hand to inflict further damage. Down back, all six backmen were brilliant as they have been all year.
Aberfeldie pushed on to win the next three quarters with the midfield and backline absolutely dominant all game. Oak Park’s backline fought on bravely after quarter time, but looked completely overwhelmed by the amount of ball coming in. Liam Turner managed to kick four out of the total of six goals for the Oakers while Tom German and their skipper Alex Gleeson fought hard all day. David Wittmer, suffering injury from a crunching tackle from Brett Hayward, was another Oaker who could hold his head up after battling back to keep Mangan under relative control after quarter time.
Aberfeldie look like a different side from the one that lost to Douttas only two weeks ago. They look to be relishing the new direction from Mal Michael and are playing with confidence and ruthlessness. Their last two performances have been four quarter efforts that have delivered huge margins of victory, which had not occurred in the previous 11 games. The key now is to maintain their form and push on to finals.
Oak Park defeated Aberfeldie by over 100 points in the corresponding fixture last year. Just as a couple of weeks has been a long time in football for Abers, one year seems like an eternity for Oak Park. Without key players and lacking in belief, the Oakers look certain now to miss finals after going within two points of a premiership last season. For such a proud football club this latest defeat will be very difficult to take, but with five weeks still left in the season they can finish on a positive note to plan for next year.
FINAL SCORE: Oak Park – 6.7 - 43 Aberfeldie – 24.13 – 157

ROUND 14, MARBY v. ABERS, Maribyrnong Park Marby started brighter with Abers struggling to get the ball out of their back half for most of the first term. Abers did well to keep in touch at the main break and then pulled away after half time with David Fanning booting four majors and Jacob Craven once again dominant down back. Other notable contributors were Gavin Moule, Jacob Hislop, Norden, G.Phillips and Johnno Mullins. Although the margin was only 15 points the result was assured well before the final siren with the Abers backline restricitng Marby to just three goals after the first term, two of which came deep in the fourth quarter. For Marby, Towner, Boyd, Whicello and Hollow were all good contirbutors but they struggled without a number of vital players such as star midfielder Heath Ayres. A huge couple of games to come for Marby will determine whether they can sneak into finals.

Good to see Daniel Mangan playing some good footy. Anyone who yells out "Get around me" after they kick a goal needs to back it up and he is finally letting his football do the talking. He will be a key come September but needs to cut that mullet

Big game this weekend as Aberfeldie host the Jets in a possible finals preview! Any casual footy fans should get down to Clifton park to see two of local footys best in action.

I expect a bold showing from Abers in the firsts & seconds this week. The two's season is on the line, they win this week & they make finals. Huge ask, but they have been in very good form the past two months.

The 18s, Reserves and Seniors all have huge matches against tough opposition in each. This week couldn't come soon enough for the Seniors who need to bounce back after fading last week, while Greenvale will want to make a statement leading into finals and reverse the corresponding fixture last year where the Gorillas got up by 10 goals.

Another great season with a disappointing finals campaign. I know there will be all the Abers knockers out there but EDFL Premier division is unbelievable with the talent across the board and Marby are a real tough, experienced team.
Definitely not a disgrace to be knocked out by the lions.

Still a lot to get through before anything can be announced but I know the club is hoping to have it finalised in about 3 weeks. As you would expect there are multiple applicants and a lot of work to get through before anything is made official.

Mal Michael is officially the Aberfeldie FC new senior coach. After a lengthy process involving a number of applicants, Mal has been confirmed as the head coach at about 5pm today. Very exciting for Abers.
