I suspect KT is referring to a big new recruit for the Gorillas - none other than Dan Connors.

Heard another one going around that they have picked up Ricky Dyson as well, can anyone confirm or deny this one???

Confident that is not true but am unsure as to where Dyson will end up. Pettifer is another who I hear mentioned a lot but again not true. Lonergan was keen had he not got another crack at AFL with Richmond. Anyway the best thing the gorillas have done is keep their talented young playing list together. Hopefully Connors fills the void left by pev etc

I hope Connors dosen't have a negative influence on any of the talented juniors at Abers. Actually now I think about it,theres not much chance of that happening given they don't actually play any of them in the one's.

All of the U18’s boys who’ve committed to play seniors will be given opportunities – they’ve all trained, there is plenty of talent amongst the group and its record numbers in terms of those that have committed to transition from U18’s to open age. Great work by the coaching staff and club to retain and develop such great talent!

Abers are looking really good for next season, they've picked up a few and will gain some quality through some of their u18 premiership side coming up.

A fairly scrappy game between Abers and Douttas which was over as a contest by mid way through the second quarter. Both teams looked like they will take some time to gel with a lot of new faces in particular for Douttas.
There were plenty of positives for Abers with new recruits Patak, Cubillo and Connors all impressing. Connors got a lot of the ball early and kicked a long goal in the second quarter before leaving the ground with what appears to be only a minor injury. In the midfield, Patak and Cubillo provided plenty of grunt but also showed great movement and skill around the ground. The usual suspects all contributed but it was good to see youngsters Langwell, Fahey and Castellano playing well. The talent still to come into this team is also very encouraging as Johns, Allan and Fanning all played reserves. Douttas will take heart from their improved performance in the second half where they managed to keep pace. The loss of both Lynch's and a few others such as the Hodgkins are going to be tough to replace but arguably of more concern is that they seemed to have lost the energy and intensity they showed last year. However, the performances of new recruits Lobb, who kicked 5 goals, Hallam, Monteith and Hutchesson along with Morris, Angus and Langtry was a shining light.

Anyone expecting an easy win for the Gorillas today was kidding themselves given the amount of talent in this Eagles team - Simon Hogan, Marcus Kenny and Daniel Harris to name but a few. Last week the Eagles showed the competition they will not be content with just survival, coming from behind to overhaul the more fancied Panthers away from home.
It was the Eagles that started more lively, keeping Abers on the back foot and getting reward through two Kenny goals. Mangan got Abers on the scoreboard but no doubt the most talked about moment of the opening quarter was the bump on Marcus Kenny which left him very shaky and apparently with a broken nose, though it was good to see him able to run off the ground. Unfortunatley he would play no further part in the contest, suffering concussion. Standing only a few metres from the bump, it appeared to be fair, which was reinforced by the umpire's decision to call play on. Speaking to a few APW supporters they thought it was a fee-kick but agreed their was no malice in it. As expected the bump added more spice to the contest and in the second quarter it was the Gorillas who got on top through the drive from the middle, piling on the goals while APW gave away some silly free-kicks. The Gorillas played some scintillating football through the middle as well as moving the ball brilliantly out of their backline. Zac O'Brien was dominant.
In the second half the Eagles responded as you would expect from a premiership team, closing the margin to four goals at the last break. Two long left foot goals from no.38 was the highlight of the quarter for the Eagles, while Mangan and Connors impressed for the Gorillas. The last quarter saw Abers be wasteful in front of goal as APW tried to close the gap. Abers played tempo footy at times to protect the lead. Tommy Hislop put his body on the line numerous times to create chances up forward while Norden, Craven, Fahey etc were again great down back.
Overall it was a really tough contest with both teams playing some great attacking football. Abers deserved the win after breaking the contest open but the Eagles showed genuine class to never let the game go. At the start of the year I had APW to be fifth by year's end, after seeing them live I think they can go one better and make the finals. Had Kenny played more than twenty minutes it could have been a different result given his form and obvious talent. Abers showed some really great signs with contributors all over the park but they may have to raise their game again to beat Avondale in just four days time.

Good win by Abers in a high scoring game yesterday. Abers young gun Danny Castellano ended with 7 goals and the BOG from the judges. Avondale played a good brand of footy and fought the game out. They have got some genuine talent and will push for finals this year. Overall a fantastic day for the EDFL.

Another impressive performance from Abers with a five goal to one first quarter setting up a comfortable victory over Keilor. The Blues started brightly with an early goal before tough tackling and fierce inside work from Wayne Patak and co. turned the game in the Gorillas' favour. Keilor lifted their intensity in the second term and caused turnovers but struggled to apply scoreboard pressure as Jarrod Garth left the ground injured. Two late goals gave them some hope after wasteful finishing from the Gorillas.
Keilor rallied after half-time but could not close the margin and Abers responded through goals from Castellano, Mangan, O’Brien and Johns to win the third quarter and affectively end the contest. Dan Connors and Zac O’Brien, who finished with four goals, were the stand out players for the Gorillas in the second half, while Andrew Browne worked hard all day in the ruck for the Blues.
To win well over a Keilor team that could easily have beaten Strathmore and Greenvale is obviously a good sign for the Gorillas. Keilor have kicked some big scores this year so to restrict them to just eight goals is a great defensive effort. Occasional skill errors and wasteful finishing is something that can be improved but overall a great win against a tough opponent.
Keilor seemed to have lost the intensity from their performances earlier in the year. No doubt the reversal of the Avondale game and the agonising losses to Strathmore and Greenvale have had some residual effect. Equally the loss of Garth early on was a massive blow, with Keilor struggling to find a clear avenue to goal. Even so they should push for finals given the experience of their coaching team and leadership group.

Five goals to one in the first quarter was the springboard for another comfortable Abers victory. After building a strong lead the Gorillas were rarely threatened with the Panthers only able to make some headway at the start of the second quarter before Abers once again kicked away. A highlight of the game was a courageous mark to Ryan Allan who was crunched between two players yet somehow managed to hold the mark.
The better players for the Gorillas were O'Brien, Tipungwati, Pattak, Cubillo and Norden while Allan finished with three goals. The Panthers' best was Warren Carlyle while Robert Mullen finished with 3 goals.
The two undefeated teams of the competition play in the much anticipated clash with Greenvale this week. It is sure to be a great game at Clifton Park.

Going to be a great game to watch this weekend..a few injuries by all accounts at Greenvale, but will Abers be able to match the Quality of Greenvales talls and will Greenvale be able to run the game out with the likes of Pattak and Cubillo some of the more impressive recruits so far this year...!

Yeah should three great games for the EDFL. These teams played out two tough matches last year with Greenvale winning both. Hopefully the Jets can get close to a full team on the park as it would be great to see the likes of McPhee and Brewer. Abers will have a couple of stars missing but have shown good form so far.

The top of the table clash between Aberfeldie and Greenvale lived up to all expectations. Abers shot out of the blocks piling on eight unanswered goals in the opening term until Potter finally got the Jets a major after the siren. The Gorillas dominated the midfield and hit up their forwards, with their accurate kicking allowing them to inflict maximum damage. The goal after the siren gave the Jets some belief and in the second quarter they grinded out five goals to one playing a much more physical game. The third term again was being won by the Jets with Abers unable to match their pressure and intensity. Ben Clifton was providing a target up forward as Potter was getting first use to Bicer and Kuret in midfield. Having kicked the last nine out of ten goals in the match, the Jets had closed the margin to just two points mid way through the third term. The Gorillas responded through an unlikely source, youngster Kyle Ryder, brother of Essendon's Paddy, providing a lead up target. Ryder's impressive leap and strong marking saw the momentum switch back to Abers who kicked the last four majors of the term. Ryder kicked two set shots before a dropped mark was snaffled by pocket rocket Castellano and Dan Connors, arguably playing his best game in two blues, booted a long goal to give Abers a handy lead going into the last. Having expended so much energy to will themselves back in the match it was always going to be tough for the Jets and when Zac O'Brien slotted from the boundary at the start of the last quarter the match was all but over. Both teams missed numerous chances to score goals in the latter stages before Kyle Ryder slotted his third late on. The Abers defence held up strong on big Ben Hakim who dropped marks he would usually take. Stephen Brewer continued to play well for the Jets right to the end while other stars such as Kuret, Campisano and Bicer battled on admirably. Adam McPhee showed exactly why he had such a successful AFL career, with his strength and field kicking a clear stand out. The skills on show were befitting of such a game, highlighted by a 40m stab pass by Gazzo to Aloi that bisected the Abers defence. Abers had plenty of contributors across the board but the performance of Cubillo was probably the stand out. Connors, Patak, Allan, Ryder, Johns, Tipungwati and a number of the Abers defenders were all very encouraging. Seeing Josh Toy in a two blues jumper was also a thrill for the supporters. Overall it was a fantastic showcase for the EDFL and hopefully a preview of the standard that will be on display for this year’s finals. Both teams will take away plenty from the day and given the names still to come back for both sides, the next game at Greenvale will hopefully be even better.
FINAL SCORE: Aberfeldie – 15.11.101 Greenvale – 9.8.62
