Abers have signed former Geelong VFL midfielder Gareth Phillips...big addition with more to come! Very good pick up, former Rupertswood Junior who's been at Geelong the past 3/4 years and will be a handy addition. Along with Mango, Hislop boys and a fit C. Johns the list at the club is improving. Need to retain some key Abers juniors who have had the "eggs" circling.

Can confirm Fanning is playing at Abers along with a few other very handy recruits including Mangan, Phillips, Hine and of course Hislops. Don't think Abers have lost too many but I know Suarez has left the club on very good terms. These recruits along with some big returns means its an exciting time for Abers.

Great to see some home grown boys returning in Fanning and Mangan.

Abers have really uped than ante this coming year on the spend front. They have got some big backing & gone & got the talent they think they need to win a flag.
Losing the Spainard in Suarez is a big loss, a great bloke & clubmen.
If Abers can remain injury free, with Fanning, Hislop's, Pev, Johns & Michael they have got enough firepower to match it with anyone.

Not sure signing more big names is the way to go about it. The problem last season was depth not the performance of their top handful of players.Though rotating Fanning and Michael through the Ruck gives abers an obvious advantage over any other club.

Can't fault our depth can you? Our reserves lost about 2 games last year albeit one was a GF? Maybe our genuine quality depth was lacking which is why Hislop and Fanning will genuinely make us a top 4 chance. Let's be serious, the players Abers have signed are not all big names but are all quality players so its not going to hurt our chances.
And Westerly, dunno where you get your mail from mate but saying we have 'big backing' is a load of nuts. Last time I checked its the name few blokes putting in like every other year.

The term "big backing" is referring to cash. My sources are usually on the money!!

Wildcolonialboy it wasn't an attempt to pot the club I merely meant, When at full strength abers looked great but when they picked up a few injuries they dropped away more than most. I was only commenting on the signings of fanning and hislop as they're the only one's I've heard of. Either way exciting times at abers

Westerly, I know you were referring to money and your sources are completely wrong. Saying things like that creates a false perception especially given the amount of rubbish spread about huge amounts being tipped in by certain ppl. The reality is its virtually the same as always. The club is going well down to the hard work of a small number of very dedicated people and not due to any other reason.
And freak, agree with what your saying, sorry if it came across defensive. The players thus far recruited will mean we r a improved list from last year.

My source tells me that Aberfeldie's player payments are going to be very large this season. If you deny this well then fair enough. From my opinion they are going to be more than last year, that is a given. The fact is also you have to spend up now to play finals & hopefully win a premiership.

Yeah i think its pretty obvious that certain players arn't playing for peanuts. Anyway, the point is that the club is in a decent position due to the ahrd work of the committee etc and not for any other reason.

Abers people have been on here (and the other thread) wingeing and whining about the amount clubs pay for players for years, now they have opened the cheque book it's due to hard work.......spare me!!!!!

Oh ok, we get the money from a magic money tree, my mistake! The point I was making is its been virtually the same administration/committee for the last 10 years and they deserve the credit not anyone else. I was trying to dispel the ridiculous rumours about one or two people high profile people tipping in huge amounts in because it's simply not true - at no stage did I say we aren't spending decent money either! Anyway, there's a lot better conversations to have to be honest such as the exciting new faces down training at moment with more set to join soon.
